We have multiple open positions.

Postdoctoral Fellows

We have openings for exceptional postdocs with background in chemical and biomedical engineering who are eager to revolutionize pediatric airway research in one of the most innovative translational and clinical institutions in the world.

Particularly exciting is the Postdoctoral Research Fellowship for Academic Diversity offered by CHOP jointly with UPenn. Please reach out directly to Dr. Gottardi to discuss whether you might qualify for this unique opportunity.

Graduate students

We have multiple openings for Ph.D. and Master students interested in exploring questions and technologies at the intersection of biology and bioengineering using the tools of tissue engineering and drug delivery. Candidates should apply through their respective program including the Developmental, Stem Cell, and Regenerative Biology program of the Biomedical Graduate Studies and the Bioengineering Ph.D. Program of the University of Pennsylvania.

If you have been invited to campus for an interview, please reach out. We encourage candidates to secure a graduate research fellowship and we actively provide assistance and sponsorship in the application process (through NSF, NDSEG, Hertz Graduate Fellowship, GEM Fellowship, Soros Fellowship for New Americans, Graduate Fellowships for STEM Diversity, etc.). Visiting international graduate students are also welcomed and encourage to apply for fellowships (ERASMUS World, etc.)

Undergraduate students

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated undergraduate students with good verbal and communication skills who want to join us in our research adventure.

Some of the technique we routinely use in the lab are: 3D printing, cell and tissue culture, synthesis of biomaterials, fluorescence microscopy, histology and immunohistochemistry, real time PCR, mechanical testing, fabrication of drug delivery vehicles. No previous experience in any of these techniques is required. We are looking for your enthusiasm, motivation, and good planning skills.

We highly encourage all undergraduate students to look into fellowship to support their research over the summer, such as the Penn Undergraduate Research Mentoring Program (PURM), the NSF/LSAMP Undergraduate Research Program, the Littlejohn Undergraduate Research Program of the School of Engineering, the Summer Undergraduate Internship Program (SUIP) of the School of Medicine, the Translational Internship Research Program, the CHOP Research Institute Summer Scholars Program of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and the Singh Center Research Experience for Undergraduates. Additional options could be found through the Penn Center for Undergraduate Research & Fellowships.

If interested in a Post-baccalaureate experience to strengthen your CV before applying to grad school, consider applying to PennPREP Post-Baccalaureate Research Education Program.
